The Boston Public Schools Office of Curriculum & Instructional Practices for the Arts is now accepting submissions for the:
Dramatic Developments Short Play Award
3 prizes of $2,000.00 awarded!!
Submit your Middle School appropriate 20-30 minute play by
February 1st, 2007
Submission Rules:
Plays should be 20 minutes to 30 minutes in performance length.
Scripts must be relevant to middle school students and appropriate for classroom use and performances for 6th, 7th and 8th graders (approximate ages: 11-14). For more information on classroom-appropriate materials, see the Student Code of Conduct for the Boston Public Schools at boston.k12.ma.us/info/policyhandbk.pdf on pages 39-41.
Sets and lighting cues must be minimal.
Playwrights must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
Scripts must be original, unpublished pieces that have not been previously produced.
Scripts may have been work-shopped or performed as a staged-reading.
Scripts must not be under option for publication through any other contests.
Playwright agrees that the Boston Public Schools may use the script indefinitely for any in- and out-of-school student performances without paying royalties should the script be published following the contest.
Playwright agrees to acknowledge the script as a winner of the Boston Public Schools Dramatic Developments Short Play Award in any subsequent productions and/or publications of the script.
For any directly quoted/referenced work, the playwright must include copyright information with submission, including written permission from the original publisher.
All scripts must be typed, following the standard play manuscript format.
Playwrights may submit more than one script; all entries will be judged separately.
A group or collaborative team may submit scripts. All collaborating members must be identified on the cover-page.
Playwrights must submit each script with a removable cover-page that includes the playwrights name and all current contact information, and the title of the play. Other than the title, no identifying information should be included on the script.
To maintain anonymity, all entries are identified by numbers for judging
Scripts will be read and selected by a group of theatre and education professionals.
Submissions will not be returned.
Submissions must be postmarked by February 1, 2007.
