Contest Deadline: Post Marked by August 31, 2009

One-Act Plays; number of copies 2

Must be unproduced in LA area, production in another area okay.

Notification of semi-finalists only.

Please Submit: Full script, typed and securely bound; no contact info on script/separate title page with contact info; Character breakdown and set requirements; SASP for acknowledgment if desired; Don't include SASE, scripts will NOT be returned.

Plays with simple staging requirements are favored, but we are willing to consider any quality writing. We are looking for plays with a running time of fifteen minutes or less. Plays that run over twenty minutes will NOT be considered.

All plays chosen will be cast from our resident company of actors. If you wish to see the company, please see our website, but we are acquiring new actors on a regular basis, so the actors available for next year's festival may be different.

Circus Theatricals was founded by Jack Stehlin in 1983. His philosophy on one-acts and the pieces which have done the best in the past are simple plays designed to dramatize a single and profound idea about humanity. We gravitate more to plays about people than about politics. We are looking for a piece of theatre which will resonate with the audience tomorrow and ten years from tomorrow.

Our company is in residence at the Odyssey Theatre, but we have produced plays at several theaters across Los Angeles. Circus Theatricals has garnered awards and nominations from the LA Drama Critics Circle, Back Stage West, the LA Weekly, LA Stage Alliance Ovations, and Dramalogue.

Please log onto our website for further information and to check out our current one-act festival, which is being performed through the month of June at the LEX Theatre in Hollywood.
