Script Submission Guidelines for ANPF 2010
Scripts for the Ashland New Plays Festival 2010 (to be held in October) will be accepted beginning September 1, 2009, and must be accompanied by an ANPF Application and postmarked no later than January 15, 2010. Playwrights will be notified in June 2010.
Selected playwrights participate in approximately 12 hours of rehearsal culminating in two public readings and will be expected to sign a participation agreement upon notification of their selection. Performers and technicians are a mix from the community, semi-professional, and professional theaters in Ashland. Financial assistance: $500 stipend plus lodging in a local bed-and-breakfast inn.

- • One submission per author per year
• Authorship indicated on cover page only
• Full-length dramas or comedies (two acts, total 90- to 120-minute running time)
• Previously unproduced
• Cast limited to eight actors; submit doubling plan if the script has more than eight roles
APF does not accept:
- • Film or TV scripts
• Translations or adaptations
• Children's theater
• Musicals
The following must be submitted with each script:
- • Completed ANPF Application
• A check for $15 to cover administrative costs (check made payable to ANPF)
• Cover page with playwright's full contact information (name, address, telephone, and e-mail)-not bound into script
• Title page with title only, bound into the script
• Brief synopsis of play (limit: two paragraphs) and cast list (including any doubling plan) bound into the script
• Author's biography with emphasis on history as a playwright
• If you would like to confirm that your play has been received, send it with delivery confirmation, by certified mail, or with a return receipt requested. Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage if return of script is desired.
• Scripts must be legibly typed on letter-sized paper (8½" × 11") and securely bound. We are not able to receive scripts electronically at this time.
Authorship information should be indicated ONLY on the cover page. All scripts are "blinded" during the evaluation and selection process.
Any script not meeting these criteria will be ineligible for consideration.
Definitions:
The Ashland New Plays Festival considers a play to have been "produced" if it has been presented to an audience with the following elements: blocking, scenery, costumes, lighting, and professional actors who have memorized their roles; admission was charged; and actors and playwright were paid.
"Unproduced" means actors are "on book" and there are minimal staging effects (scenery, costumes, lighting). A "token" admission may have been charged. Director, actors, and techs either volunteered their time or received a token stipend. Playwrights were not compensated, though may have received a stipend.
