Eastbound Theatre seeks short one-act plays for production in July. The theme of Eastbound Summer 2012 will be “XII”. 5 finalists will receive a production of their play, and compete for the Summer Audience Award. There is no financial compensation for production, or for winning the award.
In the past, Eastbound has chosen a theme based on an association with the number of the year. This year, playwrights are encouraged to free associate with the number 12. Possible ideas may include Noon, Midnight, Boxcars, Eggs, Ribs, Disciples, Measurements, Juries, Twelve Step Programs, The 12 Tribes of Israel, Zodiac (Chinese or Astrologic), Majestic 12 (for the conspiracy theorists), Twelfth Night, Knights of the Round Table, or for the ambitious, the 12 hues in the color wheel. The 1812 Overture is also an idea for those seeking a major challenge. Twelve page plays on any topic will also be considered, but playwrights are discouraged from writing plays with 12 characters.
Deadline is February 17, 2012.
There is no submission fee.
There is no compensation for performance.
Playwrights will maintain all rights to their material.
Playwrights may submit more than one play.
Finalists will be notified via email unless playwright requests otherwise.
Scripts should contain a minimum of furniture, props and technical cues.
Submissions must be unpublished, original one-act plays of 10-15 pages in length, inspired by the theme “XII” or the number 12.
We prefer submissions to be completely new plays, written specifically for this event.
Please submit your script and a cover letter explaining how the theme “XII” or the number 12 inspired your work.
Email submissions to [email protected]. Attachments can be doc, rtf or pdf files.
Hard copy submissions can be sent to:
