I am a playwright. I also happen to be a woman, but I am
not a woman playwright.
–Lillian Hellman, author of The Children's Hour
Pride Films and Plays presents Women's Work, a contest for writers who just happen to be women.
Pride Films and Plays endeavors to enhance the visibility of women who write and offer them opportunities to be heard loud and clear. Or, in this case, loud and queer.
The Women's Work contest fosters excellence in work written by women intended for live performance, including plays, performance art, monologues, and other performance pieces. All materials submitted must be written by a woman (or women) and have lesbian characters, history, or themes pertinent to the lesbian community and relevant to the world. We are accepting both full-length scripts and short plays.
Contest finalists will receive a cash prize and a staged reading of their work in Chicago in the summer of 2012.
Entry fee is waived if entry is received between February 1 and February 10.
Entry fee is $15 if entry is received between February 11 and March 10.
Entry fee is $30 if entry is received between March 11 and April 10.
To make the final deadline, scripts must be received by 11:59 pm Central Time on April 10, 2012.
