Broom Street Theater is currently seeking script submissions for its 2008 season. Broom Street is one of the nation's oldest continuous experimental theater companies and primarily produces original works by local playwrights. There are openings for seven new plays in the upcoming year.

While there are no limitations as to style, length, or subject matter, the author submitting a play should familiarize themselves with the previous works that Broom Street Theater has done in the past. Information on the history of Broom Street Theater can be found at the theater's website located at www.broomstreet.org.

While Broom Street Theater produces mainly original and previously unproduced works, the theater has occasionally performed scripts that have been produced elsewhere or that are considered classics, but usually with a new interpretation or style.

Submissions are also not limited to local playwrights, but Broom Street Theater's tradition of promoting local, regional, and state writers will give greater weight in the overall selection process. Last year more then 40 scripts were received from around the country and as far away as Great Britain. Three playwrights new to the theater were selected to have their works performed during the current 2007 season.

If interested in submitting a script for consideration, please send either a full script or a production proposal to the theater?s Artistic Director, Callen Harty. Deadline for submissions is May 31, 2007. Scripts and proposals remain the property of the author and should be e-mailed to charty@broomstreet.org or sent by mail to:
