Call For Submissions
Plays, Musicals, and Children's Theater!

Dear SPF Friends,
Though the third annual Summer Play Festival is currently in full
swing,
we're already thinking ahead to next year. We will begin accepting
submissions for next summer's festival immediately following the close
of
this one, on August 1.

So we want to read more of your scripts! Like last year, all
submissions
will be done online via www.spfnyc.com. No submissions will be accepted
in
hard copy form except for musical CDs, but musical books must still be
submitted online. We are looking for full-length plays and musicals by
emerging writers who have not had a major New York production in a
theater
over 99 seats. We are not accepting translations or adaptations.

Musical submissions must have 10 actors or less (character doubling is
fine). Only one submission per writer is allowed. Scripts previously
submitted to SPF are fine to resubmit. All plays must be submitted in a
single document, formatted in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or Rich
Text
Format. All scripts must include page numbers.

Submissions are open to all emerging writers, with or without
representation. However, we will only accept the first 600 scripts we
receive from unrepresented writers, so please get your submission in
early.

For the first year we will be accepting children's theater submissions.
Musicals, plays, and puppetry will be accepted, and all children's
theater
shows should be under an hour in length. Writers who have had a major
New
York production in a theater over 99 seats are still eligible to submit
children's theater pieces only. Adaptations of existing novels and
literary
works are acceptable for children's theater if writer has the
production
rights to the play or the work is in the public domain.

The submission period will run from Tuesday, August 1 to Wednesday,
November
1. Applications and submission guidelines will be posted on our website
in
the next few days, so please review them for answers to any questions.

All the best,

The SPF Team
