Essential Theatre is committed to producing a wide range of quality, thought-provoking theatre. We focus on the best of contemporary and classic theatre from around the world. Essential Theatre is a new professional theatre company operating in Richmond, Virginia. Created in August, 2002 the company's first production - "Boom Town" a dark comedy by Jeff Daniels - met with critical and financial success.
Essential Theatre will take up residence in Monumental Church (a deconsecrated Episcopal Church designed by Robert Mills, architect of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C.) in February, 2003 with a short season of two plays - Eugene O'Neill's only comedy, "Ah, Wilderness" followed by Shelagh Delaney's groundbreaking 1958 drama 'A Taste of Honey". A full season of 5 plays will follow in September, 2004.
